FILE: 2024-5255, 5278, 5476 – Port Moody Police are investigating a trio of suspicious occurrences at a local elementary school.
Port Moody Police and Port Moody Fire Rescue have responded three separate fires deliberately set at Glenayre Elementary School over the past several weeks [November 9, 11, and 24 respectively]. In the most recent event, a lone teenage male wearing dark clothing was seen fleeing the area on a bicycle.
“All of the fires have occurred outside of school hours and have been set in very close proximity to the school structure” states Constable Sam Zacharias, adding that “there has been no damage to school property fortunately”.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Port Moody Police Department or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous.

UPDATE!!! CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS CRAFT SALE 2023
Glenayre, YOU make a difference!!
We are thrilled to announce that our neighbourhood raised an impressive $985.40 for charity at the Glenayre Children’s Christmas Craft Fair last winter through the sales of the crafts all made and donated by our Glenayre residents and purchased by the schoolchildren as gifts for their loved ones for the holidays. Thanks to your wonderful generosity we donated all of these proceeds to Tri City local charity Crossroads Hospice Society.
Darcy Kowalchuk, from our GCA Board of Directors, had the heartwarming honor of handing over the cheque to Veronica Brown, Director of Philanthropy, who accepted it on behalf of Crossroads Hospice. This donation will go a long way in supporting their incredible work in our community and everyone at Crossroads is so pleased! Such a great group of caring and warm people they have working at that organization.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed and participated. Together, we are making a difference! Posted June 12.2024
Trail etiquette & being good wildlife neighbours...
Out on neighbourhood and Burnaby Mountain Trails this summer? Thank you for sharing the trails safely and respectfully by:
Leashing dogs at all times
Walking on the right (single file when faster trail users are passing on your left)
Ringing your bell and slowing down to pass (on the left) if riding a bike
No motors of any kind on Burnaby mountain (e-bikes also not permitted)
Not feeding or attracting wildlife (“a fed bear is a dead bear”)
Staying on the trail - shortcutting damages nature and causes erosion.
GCA Scholarship 2024 WINNER!!

AILSA SPRAY PARK UPDATE!!
The CoPM is pleased to advise that our Spray Park will be “ready for the May long weekend” and this means a summer of splashing fun! Upgrades include a new natural play area is to be built south of the existing splash pad. This addition will include a water pump, a trough, a weir, and a sand table, all surrounded by wooden logs and boulders for a natural feel. Within the splash pad area, two underground sprays will be upgraded to new, aboveground features.
Please note the location and configuration is slightly altered due to the riparian setback with Stoney Creek. Riparian setbacks are guidelines or bylaws specifying the distance required between the water and development. Riparian zones, or areas, are lands that occur along the edges of rivers, streams, lakes, and other water bodies.
The added features to the existing park and new expansion look to be amazing for our little Griffins! POSTED April 2.2024
REMINDER!! AVOID ATTRACTING BEARS & BEAR ENCOUNTERS
Preventing conflict with bears is a community responsibility. The best way to keep both people and bears safe is to manage attractants. Please see the link Bear Essentials for some tips to get you started.
If you see a bear in your neighbourhood or park, report it to the B.C. Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277. This maps bear encounters, which is essential in education and enforcement efforts before an animal becomes dependent on human-supplied sources of food.
For information on how to minimize adverse human-bear interactions, please email Environmental Services.

*************************************************************
With Spring just around the corner and knowing there has been interest from many of our residents to set up an organized adults-only Glenayre neighbourhood walking group, your GCA is looking to help get this off the ground starting with asking for your feedback to some questions:
1) Please contact Darcy Kowalchuk at darcyk@myglenayre.ca if you are interested in participating in this group.
2) If this program was to run April through June (approx. 13 weeks), what’s your preferred weekday evening for a one hour walk starting 7pm. (Glenayre Community Centre would be the meet up spot)
3) Would you like to put your hand up to be a Volunteer Activity Host who will commit to leading the walking group on the decided day of the week?
4) Would you be open to paying a small signup fee of $2/week x approx. 13 wks to cover the administration/registration costs of running such a program?
If you’re keen to host please reach out to Darcy at darcyk@myglenayre.ca expressing your interest so we can follow up. This would be a great opportunity for adults of all ages to get out for some exercise and social time TOGETHER!

ANNUAL GLENAYRE EASTER EGG HUNT
On Good Friday, March 29, 2024, your GCA hosted the Glenayre Annual Easter Egg Hunt with much success thanks to the huge turnout of families from our neighbourhood who continue to come out to this event year after year, rain or shine! Shoutouts go to those who volunteered to help, to all the young egg hunters who participated and to those kids who entered our colouring contest for extra prizes! We were impressed with all your efforts. To all those who took part in our 50/50 raffle, together we raised a jackpot of $440 with the lucky winner taking home half!! Thank you to McDonalds on Clarke & Tim Hortons on United Blvd for donating coffee and donuts to the crowd. Last but not least, special thanks to our presenting sponsor, Louisa Shaw Baker Real Estate, and our activity sponsor, Shaw Edwards Realty Group.
WELCOME SPRING!!
As animals become more active and migratory birds arrive back from sunny climes, it’s a time to celebrate and enjoy the wonderful natural areas that surround us. Don’t forget to secure (indoors) any attractants that could be tempting for wild animals. Human and pet food (and waste) left unsecured outdoors can lead to conflict, putting both wildlife and humans at risk.
You can give wild birds a helping hand and prevent disturbance to their nests by keeping pets on leashes in wild areas and staying on marked trails.
The C of PM promotes the Naturescape B.C. program and the integration of wildlife habitat on private property. Naturescaping focuses on the use of native plants. Native plants provide food and shelter for wildlife and are adapted to our local climate, soils, predators, pollinators, and diseases. Please see this LINK for more information about the C of PM's Naturescape Policy.
As you ready your gardens this spring, you may find this C of PM information helpful:
